Knowledge to prevent discharge under high and medium voltage lines
Safe distance high voltage
The safe distance when at under high voltage current for people is defined according to the table below:
Voltage level | Minimum safe distance |
Low voltage | 0.3m |
Voltage from 1kV to 15kV | 0.7m |
Voltage from 15kV to 35kV | 1.00m |
Voltage from 35kV to 110kV | 1.50m |
Voltage from 110kV to 220kV | 2.50m |
Voltage from 220kV to 500kV | 4.50m |
Voltage | Up to 35 kV | 110 kV |
Spacing | 3.0 m | 4.0 m |
Avoid construction under high voltage power lines
Caused by: – During construction put steel bars under high voltage lines, touching power lines or near high voltage lines causing electric discharge. – House under high voltage power lines: clothesline in the ceiling, TV antenna…becoming a hazard
High-voltage electrical burns in the above cases are very severe, or there are combined injuries. To limit burns caused by high voltage current, please pay attention and observe: – Do not build houses under high voltage lines – During construction, be very cautious and careful when putting iron and steel under power lines, including medium voltage and low voltage – Do not make TV antenna poles or hang clotheslines under power lines, especially high voltage lines Caution when fishing under power linesFishing, a seemingly harmless form of entertainment, is often not. Each year, the National Burn Institute receives about 20 victims of high-voltage electrical burns from fishing. Most of these victims suffered severe burns, in many cases amputations and lifelong disabilities. The cause of high voltage electrical burns when fishing is usually caused by: Aluminum fishing rods, or other conductive materials when splashed on the hook, fishing line or fishing rod touch or get entangled in high voltage lines. In many cases, fishing rods, fishing lines, or hooks do not touch or get entangled in high voltage lines, but conductive objects nearby cause high voltage discharges and burns. When entertaining by fishing, please pay attention: – Do not fish in places with high voltage lines running through, very dangerous – Be careful with surrounding power lines including medium and low voltage lines – Try to use non-conductive fishing rods – Do not fish during heavy rain or thunder. Electrical accident during thunderstormThe biggest reason why many families living near high-voltage power lines have to move to another place is the risk of electrical discharge from the high-voltage line leading to burns, even death. Especially in rainy and thunderous days, people are always afraid of life-threatening incidents. “There is a magnetic field around the high voltage wire. When the person standing near will become the conductor. If the current is higher than the current in the body, it will cause discharge and charge. Therefore, people standing closer to high voltage currents are at higher risk” – According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Doanh, former head of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Impact on daily lifeSome people living near high-voltage power lines said that even though they built their houses about 15-20m away from the power lines, the TV was always affected by electromagnetic interference. Besides, every morning, people wake up tired and sluggish..
